Clive Grinyer

Clive is one of the RSA's co-opted trustees.

Clive Grinyer is Customer Experience Director in the Design Office of Barclays Bank, where he helps to develop new digital design projects across the bank. He brings his background in design to help technology projects be usable and accessible for all.

Clive has worked in technology as a design expert for Cisco and as a design consultant worked for innovation consultancy IDEO in the US and UK and was a founder of design company Tangerine (along with Sir Jonathan Ive RDI, design head at Apple).

A strong advocate of in-house design teams, he created Samsung’s European design studio, was head of design for Orange France Telecom in London and Paris and headed design for TAG Mclaren Audio. He was Director of Design for the Design Council between 2002 and 2005.

Clive is a passionate advocate of customer experience, technology usability and design methodologies in both business and public services, writes and speaks at conferences on design, innovation and technology, and is the author of the book “Smart Products”.

Clive graduated from Central St Martins School of Art and Design in London, is a Fellow of the RSA, a trustee of Merton Music Foundation and Honorary Professor at Glasgow School of Art.

Clive is married and has two sons, Laurence and Miles, and his passions outside of design lay in his rock band and his classic car.
