Creating new opportunities for free expression, public debate, democracy and active citizenship in Reading
Speakers' Corner Reading is a project to build participative democracy across Greater Reading and in particular to promote free expression, public debate and active citizenship across all members of the community. Reading is often seen as a commuter town with a need for more community interaction. This project will give a focus for dialogue, greater participation by citizens in community life and the potential to voice the opinions that may deliver social change.
HOW CAN FELLOWS HELP
The organisation is looking for Fellows to help with:
Administration and project management - in the longer term, someone will be needed to act as a volunteer co-ordinator to foster partnerships with local community organisations, coordinate activity, help develop programmes, book dates and events, monitor speakers’ activities (to ensure all is legal) and maintain and update our website.
Marketing, communications (including social media) and PR skills - in the longer term Speakers' Corner will need someone to manage contact with local media.
Visual communications - once up and running it will use videos on the website as testimonials to encourage others to participate and will need someone with experience of filming and editing of events for uploading to YouTube and the project’s website
