Based at Nottingham Trent University (NTU), and delivered in partnership with the RSA, Nottingham Civic Exchange (NCE) will become one of the region’s authoritative voices, addressing salient policy agendas. In particular, it will explore the implications of new initiatives from a Nottingham perspective, drawing on the expertise of University colleagues, civic and commercial partners, community and voluntary groups and NTU students.
RSA staff have worked since 2015 to provide strategic guidance, translate global research into local leadership on inclusive growth, and undertake new research into how economic insecurity in Nottingham connects to broader societal trends. The RSA is taking opportunities to mobilise the region’s 1000 RSA Fellows to maximise the impact of NCE.
What is Nottingham Civic Exchange?
Nottingham Civic Exchange has been established by Nottingham Trent University, working in partnership with the RSA, to:
- maximise research, policy and practical impact by bringing university colleagues together with partners seeking to address the needs of local communities;
- influence debate by becoming one of the region’s best-established and high-profile arenas for discussion and information sharing;
- act as a bridge between NTU research and current policy debates, linking to government departments, shadow departments, select committees and other policy fora;
- support NTU’s civic engagement through linking together our students and colleagues with civic agencies through placements, volunteering, or research projects; and
- provide a focus for our students of social sciences to gain practical experience of the analysis, dissemination, and impact of policy.
To support this, NCE’s role will be to robustly investigate the issues that matter to a range of stakeholders living in, managing and leading the city-region, using the strengths of the applied research across NTU. NCE will work collaboratively to identify challenges and seize opportunities to develop and implement public policy, support better processes and more effective intervention, and showcase innovative developments, demonstrating their impact on individuals and organisations.
