This series of aerial photographs goes beyond documenting America’s well-known love affair with all things auto. The intriguing images also tell of the car industries ability to change the landscape as well as culture.

The resulting visuals look more like vast artefacts left by ancients or aliens rather than contemporaries and this exhibit is certainly in keeping with the Center’s mission to ‘understand the nature and extent of human interaction with the earth's surface.’

CLUI’s mission often requires multidisciplinary efforts, involving tried and tested research approaches as well as less orthodox ones. Their website showcases these efforts with various publications, a land use database and tours as well as links to the American Land Museum, a network of landscape exhibition sites.
