Join Fellows in Cambridge this autumn to help imagine a fairer and more equal Britain. Please see below for a full event schedule.

Cambridge Commons, a local affiliate of the Equality Trust is launching a new series of expert talks around the theme of building a more equal and fairer Britain.

Morice Mendoza FRSA, former editor of the RSA Journal, is one of the volunteers involved in imagine2027:

“I believe this is a time when we need evidence-based and rigorously thought through ideas about how to create a much fairer and more equal society in this country. Research from organisations like CPAG shows that the UK is in danger of becoming ever more unequal. We have a potential perfect storm from the impact of welfare ‘reform’ on the lives of the most vulnerable and a potentially economically damaging Brexit. The desire for a more positive future can be sparked and guided by the best ideas from experts and that is why I want to support events such as imagine2027”.

Forthcoming events include:

October 12th – Economist Ann Pettifor, head of PRIME, on a socially just economy in 2027

October 19th – Oxford Professor of Human Geography, Danny Dorling, on education, equality and everything else: A Fairer England in 2027

November 9th – Sir Michael Marmot, Professor of Epidemiology at UCL, on the health gap between rich and poor, and what can be done to reduce it

November 16th – Helen Margetts, Director of the OII, and Professor of Society and the Internet, on how social media can work for greater equality

November 30th – Ava Vidal, Director of the Oxford Internet Institute, on intersectional feminism for a fairer 2027

In 2018, more from Guy Standing (Basic Income), Herman Hauser (Tech for social good), Baroness Helena Kennedy QC (Fair access to justice) and Owen Jones (Social inclusion). All events, chaired by David Howarth, Professor of Law and Public Policy at the University of Cambridge, start at 18:30 at Anglia Ruskin University.
