Radio 4 in association with RSA
The next in the series of Radio 4's exciting new talks strand – FOUR THOUGHT – takes place in the RSA's Benjamin Franklin Room on Monday 15 October from 6-8pm.
Combining two of the trademark elements of both the RSA and Radio 4 - big ideas and evocative storytelling - speakers will be invited to take to the stage ready to air their latest thinking on the trends, ideas, interests and passions that affect our culture and society. Talks will be unscripted, thought-provoking and entertaining, with a personal dimension.
Speakers will include: Ben Dyson, founder and director of Positive Money, tells how his disillusionment with mainstream economics led him to campaign for a proper understanding of how money works as the first step in fixing a failed banking system; Ismail Einashe, Somali born British writer, explores the link between childhood war trauma in young Somali men and the rise in violent gang culture, and seeks solutions to the problems caused by this damaging psychological legacy; Anna Minton, author of “Ground Control”, argues that the increasingly high security surrounding public buildings creates a sense of fear rather than safety and sees the democratic achievements, which made private spaces public, going into reverse; and writer Jim Friel defends the value and virtues of the single life against the widespread cultural view that being in a couple is a superior state of being.
FOUR THOUGHT will be broadcast at a later date on BBC Radio 4.
