Era-defining author and commentator Martin Amis discusses the challenges and opportunities for 21st century England in this special RSA event.

‘The first great attack on Mrs Thatcher was Martin Amis’s novel (Money)’ – Stephen Frears, April 9th 2013.

The Thatcher era is now officially at an end, and yet when the country looks in the mirror it draws more of a blank than ever. Did we ever fully recover from Thatcher’s interventions, or was her confident leadership actually a boon we’ve not seen the like of since?

Austerity is still deepening and visionary political and cultural trailblazers are hard to find. Are we a divided, unequal nation obsessed with celebrity and underpinned by individuals pursuing individual goals, or are we hungry for value-led change and on the precipice of regeneration and a fresh, new identity?

Era-defining author Martin Amis visits the RSA to discuss the State of England.

Chair: Jonathan Freedland, award-winning journalist, author and broadcaster.
