Despite the great advances made since their great-grandmothers’ generation, today’s young women still face extraordinary challenges. Quite apart from some of the key workplace issues around childcare, pay parity and equal boardroom representation, only recently we witnessed the shocking Twitter outbursts and threats that accompanied both Mary Beard’s appearance on Question Time, and campaigner Caroline Criado-Perez’s drive to get women represented on British bank notes.
In an exchange across the political generations, writer Melissa Benn and Labour MP Stella Creasy visit the RSA to consider how and why extraordinary levels of female achievement co-exist with rising levels of misogyny, and what to do about the growing gulf that threatens between the female 'haves' and 'have-nots'.
