What happens when an activist outsider becomes a government insider? How do you put idealism into practice in the corridors of power?

Samantha Power is a Pulitzer-Prize winning author and leading global voice on human rights and international affairs. She served for four years as President Barack Obama’s human rights adviser and then, from 2013 to 2017, in his Cabinet and as US Ambassador to the United Nations.

In her new memoir The Education of an Idealist, Power transports us from her early years in Dublin and the streets of war-torn Bosnia to the White House Situation Room and the arena of high-stakes diplomacy, where she grapples with competing demands of idealism and pragmatism, commitment and compromise.

Join Samantha Power at the RSA for an unmissable insight into the searing battles and defining moments of a life devoted to making a difference, and a timely reminder that, in the face of great challenges, each of us has a role to play in advancing the cause of human dignity.
