2025年度の「エドワード・ボイル記念講演 (Edward Boyle Memorial Lecture)」では、日英のRENKEI加盟校から高名な先生方にご登壇いただき、高等教育、研究、イノベーション分野における国際協力の重要性をテーマに、日英大学間連携プログラム「RENKEI」による日英の若手研究者の交流や協働研究の機会創出への取り組みを紹介します

「RENKEI」は、日本と英国の大学間でのナレッジの共有や国際共同研究の促進を目的に、日英の研究大学を中心として2012年に創設された、日英大学間連携プログラムです。

「Edward Boyle Memorial Lecture」は、1940年代から1970年代にかけて、英国の文部大臣、影の内務大臣、教育科学大臣などを歴任、高名な政治家として活躍した後、リーズ大学副学長を10年以上務めた、エドワード・ボイル卿 （Baron Boyle of Handsworth）の名前を冠した講演シリーズです。教育、学習、音楽の推進を支援することを目的として、ボイル卿の功績を称えて創設された「Edward Boyle Memorial Trust」が母体となっています。本2025年度の講演では、グローバルパートナーシップおよび高等教育の重要性について探求します。

Professor Hannah Brown is a social anthropologist with specialisation in medical anthropology.

Hannah’s research interests include: economies and practices of care; governance; the state; nursing; hospitals; global health interventions (especially around HIV/AIDS and viral haemorrhagic fevers); development; community-based health care; and public health. Her current research work is funded by an ERC starting grant, AliveAFRICA: Animals, Livelihoods and Wellbeing in Africa. This project explores changing animal-based economies in Kenya and Sierra Leone, and the implications of human-animal entanglements for health and well being. This project builds on previous research on zoonotic diseases and epidemic management in West Africa, with a particular focus on Lassa fever and Ebola virus disease. It also builds on her longstanding interest in issues around care, health governance, and relationships between institutions, modes of governance and health systems bureaucracies.

Hannah has worked extensively in Kenya where she carried out extended fieldwork with health managers in 2011 and in a hospital and community development organisation between 2005-7. Her Ph.D. (Manchester, 2010) explored responses to HIV/AIDS in Western Kenya through the modality of care. Following her Ph.D. Hannah spent two years as a research fellow at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine before joining the University of Durham in January 2013.

Motohiro Tsuchiya is Vice-President for Global Engagement, Keio University.

Professor Motohiro Tsuchiya is the Vice-President for Global Engagement at Keio University. Prior to his current appointment, he served as dean of the Keio University Faculty of Policy Management. He earned his BA in political science, MA in international relations, and PhD in media and governance, all from Keio University. He is a guest editorialist for Nikkei, one of the nationwide newspapers in Japan. He has authored or co-authored over 40 books, including The Very Long Game: 25 Case Studies on the Global State of Defense AI (Springer 2024).

Graduated from the Faculty of Humanities, Tokyo Metropolitan University in 1985. Ph.D (Tohoku University) in 2002. Served as Assistant Professor at Tokyo Metropolitan University and Associate Professor at Fukushima University before joining Ritsumeikan University. Currently Vice President of Ritsumeikan Trust and Professor at the College of Comprehensive Psychology, Ritsumeikan University.

Specialises in qualitative psychology, cultural psychology, and the history of psychology. Served as Executive Director of the Japanese Psychological Association and President of the Japanese Association of Qualitative Psychology. Co-proposed the TEA (Tranversal Equifinality Approach) with Jaan Valsiner in 2004. Author of numerous books including “Getting Started with Qualitative Research Using TEM” and “Mapping Qualitative Research Methods.” His recent interests include the integration of cultural psychology with spaces such as the metaverse and universe.

Prof Marion Hetherington is Professor Emerita in Biopsychology at the University of Leeds.

Her research focuses on Nutrition and Appetite across the lifespan, specifically infant feeding, and the anorexia of ageing. She is a former member of the UK Government Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) and former Editor in Chief of Appetite.

Toshiya Ueki is the Executive Vice President for General Affairs, International Relations and Academic Resources of Tohoku University.

He is also a Professor of International Law at the Faculty and Graduate School of Law. From 1988 to 1990 he was a Visiting Fellow at the Research Centre for International Law at the University of Cambridge, UK, and from 1996 to 1997 he was a Visiting Scholar at the Harvard-Yenching Institute at Harvard University, USA. Prof. Ueki is a member of a number of distinguished academic societies including the Japanese Society of International Law and the International Law Association, and from May 2020 to May 2023 he served as the President of the Japanese Association of World Law and from June 2022 to June 2024 he served as the President of the Japanese Society of International Law.
