Our welcoming North Oxfordshire network meet on a monthly basis at Ye Olde Reindeer Inn in Banbury. We meet in order to progress our main project, Driving Ambition, to discuss and develop other meaningful initiatives and events, and simply to socialise and share ideas in a convivial environment.
Our latest event is driven by the significant changes planned to Banbury’s townscape, affecting the area around the canal and Castle Quay shopping centre, which have major implications for Banbury’s much-loved museum.
A previous town centre redevelopment at Castle Quay provided the opportunity to build a new museum, purpose-designed, with more space for displays and activities, in a great canal-side location. Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the community, the iconic modern building, designed by ECD Architects of London, opened in September 2002 to display local history collections and host touring exhibitions.
An exciting new chapter opened in November 2013, when a new charity, The Banbury Museum Trust, took full responsibility for the Museum from the Local Authority. A new period of further development has now begun.
The director of Banbury Museum, Simon Townsend, has very kindly agreed to share those developments with us, and to host the event within the museum. There will be ample opportunities for socialising and networking, all in the fascinating and inspiring environment of Banbury Museum; and warm and friendly Fellows will be available to welcome you and to help you find your way around.
18:30 – Welcome drinks and an opportunity to explore the museum
19:00 – Speaker – Simon Townsend, Director of Banbury Museum
19:30 – Opportunity to meet and chat with other Fellows and guests.
