Help us take the RSA’s Driving Ambition project to the next stage.

Join us on 11 October from 6-9pm at the Guildford Institute to explore how Fellows can support local young people to become more employable and ready for work.

Driving Ambition is a rolling RSA programme in Surrey aimed at helping young people in education to develop ‘employability’ skills and to prepare for the world of work. The RSA collaborates with schools and colleges in offering a wide range of activities such as mentoring, career events, occupational talks, Dragons' Den-type competitions, and practice interviews.

During the current academic year, the programme has been limited in scope, consisting of a series of career talks at Collingwood College, Camberley. RSA Fellows in Surrey have been very supportive of the programme, and speakers have brought a diverse wealth of experience and insight to the talks.

All the feedback from the students has been very positive. Collingwood College commented, “Without the partnership with the RSA, the students would not have benefited from meeting such a wide variety of people with many years of experience”.

In general, schools and colleges have struggled to take advantage of Driving Ambition. Their initial enthusiasm for participation has tended to diminish in the face of the practicalities of organising events. We discovered that they did not typically have the internal resources to devote to extra activities.

As we start a new academic year, we are considering the future of the programme, especially in the light of the pressures and constraints currently experienced by schools and colleges. A major issue is how can we help them build the capacity (and confidence) required to stage career events.

Please join us to discuss the future of the programme; in particular how local Fellows can best help schools and colleges to take advantage of our offering.

If you have any access requirements or require any reasonable adjustments, please let the team know: networks@rsa.org.uk. Please also let us know if you have any dietary requirements or severe allergies.
