RSA International Development Network: Have the ‘populists’ got a point about aid?

How has the rise of populism affected both the public opinion and landscape of overseas development assistance?

Looking at one of the central themes of recent politics both in the UK and many other parts of the world, this RSA International Development Network event will consider the apparent shift from a global mindset to a more nationalist one, a position which comes into conflict with the idea of overseas development assistance: international aid.

Bringing together people with contrasting perspectives on the issue, the event will invite the audience to drive a debate around the merits of aid. The discussion will consider how aid is best delivered and the importance of aid to the UK, as a nation and as individuals.
