RSA Taunton: Talk on Music in Education

Is there a place for music in a child’s education? Come and join us for a talk by Andrew Maddocks FRSA MA LRAM on ‘growing up with music’.

Andrew, after time as a cathedral chorister at Peterborough and as a music student at Cambridge, has spent all his working life in music education: first as a secondary school teacher in Kent and Hertfordshire, then latterly as an adviser for Somerset County Education followed by a period working as a freelance consultant.

We very much hope that you will take the opportunity to meet and network with local Fellows. Guests of Fellows are always very welcome. An optional contribution on the door of £5 will help to defray costs.

Location: Creative Innovation Centre, Memorial Hall, Paul Street, Taunton, TA1 3PF

Access: The Creative Innovation Centre can be found 50 yards from Taunton’s multi-storey car park and is housed on the corner of Paul Street, Taunton TA1 3PF. There are two other car parks near by. Buses drop off just 120 yards away and there is a taxi rank about 300 yards away. Just follow the A38 and when you get to some high rise buildings you will see the Paul Street turning and signs to car parks.

In 1992 Andrew co-authored with Michael Stocks 'Growing With Music', a Somerset Education programme initiative for primary schools, published by Longmans. From 1996 to 2014 Andrew worked as an advisory teacher and senior consultant for The Voices Foundation, a London-based music education charity supporting the development of a progressive classroom music-teaching programme largely based on learning through the medium of singing. In recent years Andrew was commissioned to write subsequent developments of the scheme for The Voices Foundation and the US music publishers Alfred Music, who now publish the books for the open market.
