RSA Scotland: MCICH Network - Politics of Cultural Memory in the Nations of Europe

RSA Fellows and guests, IIC Members and NGS Patrons, friends and supporters are warmly invited to attend this lecture, the second in an RSA Fellows' Media, Creative Industries, Culture & Heritage Network (MCICH) Series to mark 2018 European Year of Cultural Heritage. The MCICH Network extends its thanks to the Diplomatic Academy, Vienna, National Galleries of Scotland and RSA Scotland for support of this event.

 SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Emil Brix, born in Vienna, is a diplomat and historian. He is the Director of the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna. He has served in the Austrian diplomatic service:

1984-86: Political secretary for the parliamentary group of the Austrian Peoples Party,

1986-89: Head of Cabinet Ministry of Science and Research,

1990-95: Austrian Consul General in Cracow/Poland,

1995-99: Director of the Austrian Cultural Institute London,

2002-2010: Director General for Foreign Cultural Policy at the Ministry for European and International Affairs of Austria

2010-2015: Austrian Ambassador to the UK,

2015-2017: Austrian Ambassador to the Russian Federation.

Dr Brix is deputy chairman of the Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe and member of the governing board of the Austrian Research Association; PhD University of Vienna, Dr. hc. of the University of Drohobytsch/Ukraine and of the University of Cluj-Napoca/Romania. He has written numerous books and articles on Austrian and European history of the 19th and 20th century.

Access Information:
There is access for disabled delegates via the rear of the Royal Scottish Academy. Access for all other delegates is via the flight of stone steps at the west end of the section Princes Street Gardens adjacent the east elevation of the Royal Scottish Academy and which links along past the Scott Monument to Waverley Station. This is the same entrance as for the restaurant and shop in the Gallery, and is just a stone's throw from shops such as M&S.
