In a city being radically transformed by regeneration, how can a community plan help, and what does it take to create one? Find out and contribute your ideas at an event hosted by an RSA Catalyst-award winning project.

In pursuit of opportunity and growth, regeneration proposals often threaten existing local communities. But initiatives developed by and in collaboration with these communities have created alternative plans for the given area, incorporating the community’s voice.

One such case is in Seven Sisters, Tottenham, where a popular and vibrant market, a social and cultural hub for London’s Latin American community, is set to be demolished to make way for over 200 luxury flats and chain stores. RSA Catalyst-winner David McEwen FRSA leads ‘Tottenham in Common’, an alternative community plan for the site responding directly to the needs and aspirations of local residents and traders. It offers an architectural and urban proposal centred around the idea of democratic participation and community wealth building.

Join us for an event combining shared learning, discussion and a participatory workshop where all are invited to collaborate with traders, bringing their knowledge, skills and creativity to the community plan.

Agenda:

18.00 – 18.30: arrivals, networking

18.30 – 19.00: David McEwen FRSA & Ben Beach on ‘Tottenham in Common’

19.00 – 19.15: group discussion on democratic spatial practices and community wealth building
