Explore ideas, challenges and provocations around the table while exploring new serendipitous connections with Fellows and friends over light nibbles and drinks.

“Why can’t we all just get along?” The words of Rodney King, whose vicious beating at the hands of the LA Police led to protracted riots in LA in 1992, are as urgent today as they were then.

Conflict seems to be everywhere from personal arguments between neighbours to the global fissures along political, ethnic and religious lines that appear to be widening all the time. How can we turn things around?

Join us for an informal evening exploration of how dialogue can transform conflict and heal divisions on Thursday 3 October 2019, including sharing on:

  • current work to deal with conflicts on personal, community and national levels, from dialogue and mediation to contact using virtual reality;

  • techniques and tools used by mediators, community workers and peace campaigners;

  • insights from recent psychological research.

Together we’ll explore the roles we can all individually play to dismantle divisions and build a culture that is collaborative, not combative.

FacilitatorsMary Locke FRSA and Claire Doran FRSA (RSA Fellowship Area Manager, South East).

Mary has worked in international development and social investment and now focuses on conflict transformation, working in community mediation and serving as a trustee of Migrateful, a charity promoting integration.

Claire’s focus is community-based peacebuilding, and she has worked for organisations including the Asian Pacific American Dispute Resolution Center in Los Angeles, the Women PeaceMakers Program in San Diego, and St Ethelburga’s Centre for Reconciliation and Peace in London.

The sharing style dinner costs £16, payment taken on arrival.
