This February, the monthly network Encounter will be held at Ampersand Inventions. Hear from Catherine Johns, CEO of Kielder Observatory, and learn all about their work around the science of astronomy and physics.

The Kielder Observatory is a centre for public outreach in the science of astronomy and physics. It serves to inspire, enthuse and educate the public about the wonders of the universe and enable people from all walks of life and levels of interest to access the visual splendour of the cosmos.

As one of only two observatories in England certified as a Dark Sky Park, it has recently received a contract from North of Tyne Combined Authority enabling it to reach out to at least 30000 students over the next three years. Through public visits and events, it estimates to bring over £1m in economic development to the region.

Catherine Johns, a recent appointment as CEO, will give a presentation about the work of the team. She will discuss the priorities that they have, and the partnerships and relationships that have been established to enable the Observatory’s success.

Please follow the 'Book Now’ link above to register your place. Everyone is welcome and these events are free to attend.

If you have any access requirements or require any reasonable adjustments, please let the team know: networks@rsa.org.uk. Please also let us know if you have any dietary requirements or severe allergies.

Location: Ampersand Inventions, Floor Four, Commercial Union House, 39 Pilgrim St, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 6QE.
