RSA Coaching Conversations on 21st Century Challenges: Seeing Beyond ‘the issue - RSA

RSA coaching conversations on 21st century challenges: seeing beyond ‘the issue’

Fellowship events

Online via Zoom

Right now, the pandemic is emphatically disrupting what we thought we knew, interrupting ‘business as usual’, and leaving us with questions and unknowns that we’re trying to make sense of. And it’s only one example of living through and contributing to large-scale change in a globally connected world.

No matter how much time and energy we put into solving this and other global and local challenges it can feel as if there is always more to do.

In this series of online events, hosted on Zoom by the RSA Fellow-led Coaching Network, we will create a space for conversations to respond to and contribute to navigating challenging circumstances, which may include an exploration of questions such as:

  • How much leverage do we really have as individuals, organisations and leaders to create real change?
  • What gets in the way of translating insights into wise personal and collective action?
  • How do we navigate our emotional experiences including overwhelm, anxiety, hopelessness, or perhaps excitement, urgency, and a rising desire to contribute, in the face of impossibly large challenges or immovable institutions?
  • How do we retain the capacity to think critically for ourselves, and also be responsible social actors and influencers, amid rapid change and shifting social and other responsibilities?

Whatever the context of these exploratory coaching conversations, we aim to share an understanding of coaching and a coaching perspective at the intersection of RSA strategic themes and emerging current events.

The online calls are participatory and, during the call, we will break into pairs or small groups to facilitate deeper exploration and reflection. This is also an opportunity to meet and connect with other Fellows and like-minded individuals.

The themes will remain responsive to current events, and each event in the series will be held on a Tuesday every month, from 6-7.30pm. We have provisionally arranged them as follows:

Tuesday 17th November: Leadership in times of change
Whatever our work, we are all leaders, whether or not we are in a traditional organisational structure with team members who report to us. In this online event, we will explore what it means to be a leader, especially in times of change (be it personal, organisational, or global change). We will offer a potentially new and different way to take a look at leadership and where you can be most effective at supporting those around you.

Tuesday 8th December: Reviewing for Resilience
A chance to take a breath before 2021 and look back at what has been a turbulent year for many. We will explore what it means to be resilient and what you've seen new during the past year that you want to take with you into 2021. We also want to consult with you whether, and how, to continue these monthly events, to hear your ideas for 2021, and for us to hear a little about what you want to celebrate about the year just ending. (Booking for this event will be available closer to time)

We also invite you to share with anyone in your networks who may be interested. All are welcome to join from anywhere in the world, and attendance is by no means restricted to RSA Fellows or practicing coaches.

RSA Fellow-led Coaching Network: Please note: the events will not be recorded, but a short read-out will be circulated to the Network after each event. Not a Network member? Sign up here to receive these updates or invitations to future events.

Online events to be held on Zoom: These events will all be held virtually, on Zoom so you can join from the comfort of your home. Note the events are listed under GMT UK timezone, but you are welcome to join us from anywhere in the world. Once you have signed up, you will receive an email with call joining instructions and an option to add the event to your calendar.

Not familiar with Zoom? It is an easy to use online conferencing platform. Users do not need to make an account to join the call, and call joining instructions will be sent with your confirmation email once you register.

If you have any access requirements or require any reasonable adjustments, please let the team know: networks@rsa.org.uk.
