New pathways and solutions for tackling Canada’s most pressing challenges are emerging in a post-Covid world. Can traditional models continue to be effective?
For this online event series initiated by our RSA's Canada Connector, Anita Li, we will explore concepts of innovation, community engagement and identity. We're inviting Fellows and other community leaders to share how they’ve been navigating this rapidly changing landscape.
During our first interactive event, “Building Trust in Communities,” Fellows will have the opportunity to hear from grassroot projects, to discuss how they’ve been engaging communities across Canada, and to connect with other changemakers.

- Anita Li (FRSA) is a longtime journalist, news entrepreneur, media consultant and educator. Currently, she is the founder and CEO of The Green Line, a local Toronto-based news outlet. Anita has over a decade of full-time experience as a multi-platform journalist at outlets across North America. She is also a journalism instructor at Ryerson (X) University and Centennial College in Toronto, as well as at the City University of New York's Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism. Her areas of expertise include community-driven journalism, audience engagement, journalism entrepreneurship, media business models, newsroom diversity and media ethics. Anita co-founded Canadian Journalists of Colour in 2018, and has been a member of the Online News Association board of directors since 2020. - Jayne Engle (FRSA) has worked globally as an urbanist, experimentalist, and curator of change processes - most recently as communities director at the McConnell Foundation, with a portfolio including Future Cities, Participatory Canada & Civic-Indigenous 7.0. She’s worked in contexts of deep societal change, from economic transition in post-Soviet Central Europe, to participatory research in Haiti’s 2010 post-disaster reconstruction efforts, and in urban policy & regeneration in US, Canada & Western European cities. Jayne holds a PhD in Urban Planning, Policy & Design from McGill University, where she’s an Adjunct Professor, and she’s co-editor of a new book, Sacred Civics: Building Seven Generation Cities (in press).
- Colin Jackson (FRSA) currently serves as Co-Chair of Calgary on Purpose, a space for constructive conversations amongst Calgarians, to build trust, facilitate inclusion, and shape what they want their city to be in the future. Senior Scholar at the University of Calgary Graduate College, Board Secretary of the National Theatre School of Canada and is a member of the Arizona State University New American Council for Art and Design. He’s the recipient of the Queen's Golden and Diamond Jubilee medals and a Canada Council Senior Arts Award. He holds a BA from the University of Manitoba and a MPA from Harvard Kennedy School. The Colin Jackson Theatre in Winnipeg is named for him.
- Daniel Rotsztain is the Urban Geographer, an artist, writer, cartographer and landscape designer whose projects seek to understand and support the diverse settings of the city’s public life. Daniel is a frequent contributor to CBC Radio's Here and Now, where he recommends local day trips in Southern Ontario. The author of All the Libraries Toronto and A Colourful History Toronto, his work has been featured in the Globe and Mail, the Toronto Star, and Now Magazine and exhibited at the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Gladstone Hotel, and as part of Nuit Blanche. He is the co-lead of plazaPOPS, a community-lead approach to transforming strip mall parking lots into free, accessible, and comfortable gathering places.
