Don’s business career has encompassed many roles including: international sales, marketing, human resources, CEO and Chair directorates with British, American, Dutch and Japanese multinationals, working across the UK, Scandinavia, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Japan. He has conducted seven ‘turnarounds’, all successful and has extensive expertise in practical change management. He serves as visiting lecturer and market researcher for British universities and is a past advisory board member of Warwick University Business School and the Institute of Manpower Studies. He is a member of the Institute of Directors.

Don is currently chair of five young companies, with a diverse range of interests ranging from international tourism and web to print solutions to CCTV Security systems. He has a particular interest in IT, Internet and telecommunications, and is business adviser to a company developing touch screen systems, avatars and services for dementia and palliative care sufferers. He serves on the Advisory Board of Newcastle Science City.

In the Third Sector, Don is a board member of Emmaus (an international homeless social enterprise), chair of its Federation Committee, a trustee of the Gateshead Group which is raising £2m for a new social enterprise and is a Trustee and past chair of HospiceCare.

Don is a RSA Life Fellow, and a founder member of the RSA North East VCH Group which implemented the first Ning site for the RSA and the first four-way RSA Fellows’ video conference.

He is a musician and motorcyclist.
