In Your Network: Francesca Berriman

Francesca Berriman MBE is a leading figure in Architectural Technology and a proud Arsenal fan:


1) Please give a brief explanation of what it is you do and why?

I am the Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists and its subsidiary companies.

2) Why did you join the RSA?

Having considered the RSA Mission, I felt that my experience, drive and values would benefit from the two-way engagement that comes with being a Fellow of the RSA.

3) What are you passionate about?

Taking pride in my job and the built environment; seeing the positive outcomes of constructive engagement. The increased awareness of Architectural Technology as a distinct and vibrant discipline.

Also Arsenal Football club – I am a season ticket holder; a proud Gooner!

4) What makes you angry?

Lack of time; frustration of failure; lack of common sense and/or proper research when policies and decisions are taken, within and outside of my industry.

5) What would you change in society given the chance?

For people to listen before making judgement.

7) What is the most important lesson you’ve ever learnt?

To listen, be patient and be polite.

8) What recent bit of news have you heard which inspires you?

The Alan Barnes story and the online appeal to raise £500 that was set up by beautician Katie Cutler; her decision to act and that news and social media can be so powerful and can be used for good. 

9) Tell us about another interesting Fellow you have spoken to.

One of my oldest friends is a Fellow; I admire her for her spirit and taking on what life throws at us with such determination and happiness.

10) What would you like to connect with Fellows about? 

Sharing experiences of a good quality life balance.
