“Art for the Senses” showcases the experiences of Geralyn Mulqueen FRSA, artist, psychotherapist, lawyer, activist and mother.

It is a showcase of her art, paintings and writing as a medium to comfort and console against emotional trauma and mental anguish and stress and brings together my work as both an artist and a psychotherapist.

Through deep and personal disclosure the event aims to bridge the fields of Art, Psychotherapy and Social policy and to offer a space for others to open deeper levels of dialogue, allowing for uncensored communication and to help victims of trauma discover their own voices. In early March, it was awarded 3 CPD points from the Irish Psychoanalytic Section of the Irish Council for Psychotherapy.

The event is aimed at activists, artisans, political change agents and those key influencers and decision makers within the fields of psychotherapy, mental health and trauma management throughout the island of Ireland and beyond. It may also attract the interest of artists, teachers and art students of all levels.

The objective of the event is to ultimately show how art can positively impact mental well being and to stimulate a wider discussion around the role of creativity in personal wellbeing. In Mulqueen’s words, “I firmly believe that everyone has an inner creative spirit that can be channelled for good within each of us.”

The event takes place in the MAC, Belfast on Friday 29th March 2019 and begins at 5.00pm and runs until 7.30pm, with a panel discussion. (Doors open from 4.30pm)

Chair:
Helen Jones BBC corespondent

Panel:
Dr Jolene Mairs Dyer UUJ
Dr Anthony O Neill Cons Psychiatrist QUB
Paula Matthews ( Deep Down Arts and Well-being)
