The RSA archive is pleased to announce their Transactions and Journals have been digitised and published online through JSTOR.

JSTOR - a not for profit service, founded in 1995 by the Mellon Foundation, is a trusted digital archive for academic research. The JSTOR archival collections contain the back issues of more than 1,500 scholarly journals across 50 disciplines that span 500 years. JSTOR works with a diverse group of nearly 900 publishers from over 25 countries to preserve and make their content digitally available.

JSTOR’s free access ‘Early Journal Content’ initiative is available to everyone, without registration and regardless of institutional affiliation. Early Journal Content includes the Society’s Transactions covering 1783-1843 and Journals from 1852 up to 1869.

Fellows visiting the RSA House will in addition have direct free access to published Journals from 1870 up to and including 2011, available via the desktop computers or the laptop terminals in the Fellow’s Library.

This will enable you to search, read online, and download PDFs of articles or pages from the following:

  • Transactions of the Society Instituted at London, for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures, and Commerce 1783-1843 (Vols. 1-55)
  • The Journal of the Society of Arts 1852-1908 (Vols. 1-56)
  • Journal of the Royal Society of Arts 1908-1987 (Vols. 56-135)
  • RSA Journal 1987-2011 (Vols. 136-157)
