“Getting your mental five-a-day” with Andy Gibson Monday 18 March 2013, 6pm CRi, 133 High Street, Tonbridge, TN9 1DH
The Whole Person Recovery Programme, which supports people in recovery from problem drug and alcohol use, has reached an exciting point. You’re invited to join us in Tonbridge on Monday 18 March to hear Andy Gibson, founder of mental health social enterprise Mindapples, talk about “getting your mental five-a-day”.
After almost a year working hard to deliver services with our partners in West Kent, many of the RSA’s ideas are coming to fruition. Our Small Sparks Scheme has awarded grants to help people take the next step in their recovery, and our community RecoveryBank is about to launch in Gravesend, encouraging users of our services and the wider community to exchange skills, talents and experiences.
As well as these initiatives, our public events programme begins with this event on Monday 18 March. This will provide a platform for understanding and discussing issues such as mental wellbeing, the impact of institutions and government policies on those in recovery.
The first event will be presented by Andy Gibson, founder of Mindapples. Andy is an RSA Trustee and a member of the Fellowship Council, and has been very supportive of our work in West Kent. Mindapples offers practical advice on how our minds work and how to improve our mental health.
These skills are a good example of ‘recovery capital’, the resources that people experiencing substance misuse issues can draw on. Andy will discuss how to improve our resilience, mental performance and mood, with an emphasis on those in recovery.
The event is free of charge and open to all, but please RSVP by registering using Eventbrite (or calling us on 0207 451 6832). We’re delighted to welcome Andy to West Kent and hope you can join us for a fascinating evening.
If you can’t attend the event but would like to find out more about the Whole Person Recovery programme, subscribe to its monthly newsletter by emailing email@example.com.
