Students from across the RSA Family of Academies have been celebrating some excellent examination results this summer.

Ipsley CE RSA Academy, our Middle School in Redditch that joined the RSA Family in January 2013, secured their best ever results at Key Stage 2.  72% of pupils achieved the “expected” level 4 in both English and Maths, matching the Worcestershire average for the first time, comparing very favourably with other local schools.

At GCSE the proportion of pupils achieving 5+ GCSEs at grades A*-C was up from 59% last year to 63% this year at Arrow Vale RSA Academy, and from 56% to 61% at Whitley Academy.  The schools’ results are therefore above the national average for England, and significantly exceed the schools’ targets based on pupils’ prior attainment.  At the RSA Academy in Tipton the headline 5 A*-C figure slipped back from 55% to 51%.

Significantly, given the RSA’s commitment to inclusion and meeting the needs of every pupil, at least 99% of pupils achieved 5 or more GCSEs at grades A*-G in every Academy, giving all those pupils a solid basis to move on to further education or training.  An analysis of strengths and areas for development across the Family has identified literacy as an area for further development, and during the Autumn term schools within the Family will be working with an experienced HMI on whole school approaches to improving English and literacy skills.

Based on this performance we are now looking to further expand the Family of RSA Academies in the West Midlands by bringing in additional schools that are in tune with the ethos and values of the RSA.  These may be schools which have converted to Academy status alone and are now looking to join a larger grouping, or schools considering seeking Academy status.

If you know about a school that may wish to join the Family, please contact Academies director Alison Critchley to discuss this further: [email protected].
