TMM are looking for an outstanding leader and influencer as their Chair, who can help take the museum to a new level of engagement and operational effectiveness

Opened in 1997, the Thackray Medical Museum (TMM) was established to present a history of medicine with an emphasis on the social and political influences, and the commercial pressures which spurred technical developments. The museum also aimed to give visitors an understanding of the impact of medical techniques upon daily life

As the museum undergoes a major capital redevelopment and a brand repositioning, it is crucial that TMM is guided by a Board that understands both our vision and the need to remain relevant and innovative. In doing so, the Board will be vital in leading and managing change to establish the museum as a leading institution in the 21st century.

TMM is therefore seeking a Chair of the Board of Trustees to lead the organisation, inviting and managing change by challenging the staff and trustees to make decisions that align with the vision and ambitions of the museum. In addition, the Chair will maintain links with key stakeholders, representing the museum as a flagship for innovation, learning and science capital in order to inspire visitors.

This is an unpaid, voluntary position, leading of one of the region’s most important independent museums.

TMM is seeking applications for this position in writing. However, they are very happy to discuss it informally in advance with you. If you would like to arrange a visit to the museum, to meet its CEO, Nat Edwards, or to find out more about their long term plans, please email nat.edwards@thackraymuseum.org or phone 0113 205 6528.
