1-2 July sees people from around England and Wales come together at a secret location in London for a heated 24 hours to put minds, energy and creativity together to imagine how the court system can move into the 21st century.

The Online Court Hackathon is the first of its kind. Hosted by the judiciary, along with LegalGeek and the Society for Computers and Law, it is an unprecedented opportunity to bring a user-centred approach to the fore. It is a chance not just to innovate in terms of the tools we are using, but to ensure that policy and decision-making is informed by an understanding of user need-led design, particularly that of the most vulnerable who are so often excluded in the current legal system.

The initiative stems from the judiciary’s drive to move more courts online as a way of achieving necessary savings of money, time and resources. Some of the proposals made so far leave much scope for more creative, evidence-based and user-informed design and development.

We are Just are a social enterprise using technology to enhance access to justice. They want to enter a team that brings the spirit of design for social innovation to the event.

They are recruiting designers of all descriptions, particularly people with user-experience and/or systems design expertise, innovators, creatives, developers, coders, social entrepreneurs and fighters for equal justice to join the team. You must be solution-focused, collaborative and enthusiastic, and willing to pull an all-nighter. No previous hackathon or legal experience necessary.

This is such an amazing opportunity to help shape the online future of the justice system right from the outset.

Don’t hesitate, get in touch by 2nd June to secure your place as part of the aspiring winning team of the country’s first Online Court Hackathon - contact [email protected]
