Come and spend time in nature, engaging with it through the senses using methods developed on the basis of Japanese ‘forest bathing’ or shinrin-yoku.

Research in Japan has found that spending quality time with the forest and in nature is very beneficial physically. It also has great emotional and psychological benefits, calming the mind by engagement with nature through the body.

A 3-hour guided walk will be offered on Hampstead Heath on 24 September 2019 at 9.30am as part of the Festival of Mental Health and Wellbeing by Monica Janowski, a guide in practicum with the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy and a social anthropologist with more than 30 years of experience researching the relationship between indigenous people in Borneo and the rainforest in which they live. The walk will not be long, but it will hopefully be deep!

Interested in participating? Please directly contact monica.janowski@gmail.com. 10 spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The meeting point for the walk will be Hampstead Heath station on the London Overground line from Richmond to Stratford, which connects with the Underground at various stations along the line. There will be no charge for the walk.

This event is organised by Monica Janowski, a Fellow of the RSA and co-organiser of the Festival of Mental Health and Wellbeing. She will be giving a talk at the RSA on 23 September on ANFT methods touching on the findings of her research in Borneo.
