Acclaimed award-winning author and author of 'Half of a Yellow Sun' Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie reflects on the role of literature in conversation with Ellah Allfrey, deputy editor of Granta Magazine.

With Half Of A Yellow Sun, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie brought to light the human stories behind Nigeria’s Biafra civil war. In her latest work, Americanah, she brings us a story of love and expectation set in today’s globalized world.

Thanks to the work of the late Chinua Achebe and other pioneering post-colonial African writers, the narratives of a younger generation of African authors can now be said to be integrated into a global literary canon. This wealth of voices, both on the continent and in the diaspora, is helping to change perceptions of Africa and Africans, challenging what Adichie has termed “the single story”.

The RSA and the Royal African Society are delighted to present a very special event with Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie led in conversation by Ellah Allfrey, Deputy Editor of Granta Magazine, in which Adichie will share her views of literature today as an African woman whose work has attained global stature.

Speaker: Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, award-winning novelist and author of Half of A Yellow Sun and Americanah

Chair: Ellah Allfrey, deputy editor, Granta Magazine.
