Bloom

A global digital platform for smallholder farmers, providing access to information, finance and markets

Most agri-tech solutions are suitable only for mid-large sized operations. With 80% of the global population fed by smallholder farmers, addressing this gap is critical to the global problem of food security.

Blooom is an AI-driven digital platform that gives the smallholder farming workforce access to information for better practices and higher yields, national and international market data on prices, and financial services including credit scoring. It works across the entire agri-value chain and is designed to be easy to use even for farmers who are not digitally adept.

Current and Future Impact

The model has impacted over 100,000 smallholder farmers and 1,000 micro entrepreneurs between 2010 and 2017, in communities across India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Cambodia and Haiti. Research conducted by IFPRI and McGill University indicated that using Bloom could increase farmer productivity by up to 75% and reduce their costs by 50%.

Their goal is to increase their reach to 3 million smallholders in the next 5 years across Asia, Africa and Latin America, and reach 10 million users by 2030.
