responsible fashion

On 24 April 2013, 1,133 people were killed and over 2,500 were injured in the Rana Plaza disaster. This prompted the Fashion Revolution movement raising awareness of the damaging effects of fast fashion.

Fable&Base SolutionAlongside being creators, Fable & Base are educators aiming to share the skills in craft and fashion to enable people to either purchase or make their own products in a responsible way.

The aim is to offer textile production in the UK that produces good quality, clean and fair fabrics and products with a focus of working with the community to offer employment and skills.

Part of the business is  centered on teaching workshops and selling custom kits that allow others to create their own products. Ideas have been taken from existing business models in Australia and America.

Scalability

Initially the company will run a business model producing textiles which will be made to order to minimise waste.  The Kickstarter and RSA Catalyst fund will enable the set up of a workshop to produce small runs of fabric. The studio will be run with an apprentice and products will be made working with local artisans and an enterprise student project.

Fable & Base will offer a limited service to designers requiring fabric printed ethically within the UK. On a monthly basis, workshops will be offered in printing and DIY to promote the ethos of teaching and sharing traditional skills.

The organisation's vision is to pioneer other sustainable textiles hubs as well as facilitating others to have access to equipment and knowledge so future generations can work in collaboration with their communities.

There is already a database of businesses and consumers who have registered their interest in our products, alongside individuals requiring workshops and designers needing fabric printed.
