Accessibility

We want our House to be welcoming and accessible to everybody but recognise our building is not easily accessible to all. We are continually making assessments to improve and adapt our building and services to meet a variety of requirements.

Additional or access needs

If you have particular questions or require support, please contact Ashley Brookes (our Head of Facilities).

A Blue Badge parking bay is available on John Adam Street opposite the entrance to the House. However, from Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 6.30pm, parking is restricted to a maximum four-hour stay. Two-hour parking meters are located in John Adam Street opposite the entrance to the House. Blue Badge holders are entitled to park at a meter/pay-and-display bay for an extra hour once the paid time has expired.

The building is quite complicated. We can provide floor plans to help visitors find their way around and staff are available to provide assistance.

Most of our lighting is LED-based but if anyone has any concerns or comments about lighting in any of the public areas or meeting rooms please do get in touch.

Assistance dogs are welcome in RSA House. Please do not hesitate to ask if you would like us to provide water and/or a water bowl.

Wheelchair users

The Society's house is an 18th-century building which has grown over the years through the interconnection of several adjoining houses. Whilst it is possible to access all public areas in a wheelchair, there are some uneven floors, awkward corners and narrow doorways. Access to the Folkestone and Prince Philip rooms is via Lift C which is unsuitable for electric wheelchairs.

There is a dedicated wheelchair ramp adjacent to the main entrance. On arrival please ring the intercom to speak to the Reception team and the door will then be opened automatically for you.

Once inside please go to the main reception desk where you will be given further assistance in locating the rooms you require. There are 3 wheelchair-accessible toilets located on level 1, level 0 and level -2, two wheelchair-accessible lifts and dedicated wheelchair points in both theatres.

Deaf or hard of hearing

A 'Deaf Alerter' paging system is linked to the main house fire alarm. If you would like to carry a pager whilst visiting the building please notify our staff at Reception.

Induction loops are installed in the following areas: Reception, Fellows' Library, Great Room, Durham Street Auditorium and Prince Philip Room. Portable Induction loops are available for use in all other rooms on request.

A captioning service by Ai-Media UK is also available on request at events which are part of the RSA Public Events Programme. If you would like to request that an upcoming public event is captioned then please email rsa.events@rsa.org.uk.

Blind or partially sighted

Large print versions of our publications and menus are available on request.
