Be part of one of the oldest and most highly regarded arts and crafts societies in the UK. Dan Maier FSDC FRSA calls on any interested RSA Fellows to get in touch before Friday 3 April.

The Society of Designer Craftsmen was founded by Walter Crane and William Morris and is proud to have some of the most innovative, talented and skilled craftspeople in the country as members. We promote and support the work of designer-makers working across craft disciplines including Ceramics, Wood, Metal, Glass & Textiles, through exhibitions, workshops and mentoring. A registered charity, the society is run by a dedicated Council of craft professionals – all volunteers. Our president is Sir Christopher Frayling. Our objectives are to:

• Foster public understanding of craft by encouragement and promotion of design excellence and fine craftsmanship

• Maintain and enhance high standards of design and craftsmanship

• Encourage training and education of new and young Designer-Craftspeople

I’m an SDC Fellow determined to find some truly great people to strengthen our presence and raise awareness of our work. We’re urgently seeking outstanding individuals for the following roles who enjoy making a worthwhile contribution.

•  Anticipated commitment: minimum 3-7 days/month

COMMS DIRECTOR
A dynamic person with a proven track record in Marketing and PR and knowledge of the art and design sector to put the Society on the map and gain the recognition it deserves. They will provide an overall strategy for member and public engagement in order to widen our audience and increase our membership. They will guide and advise Trustees and sub-committees to strengthen our message and uphold the Society’s brand values.

• Anticipated commitment: 4-6 days/month

ADMINISTRATOR
A proactive person to support Chair and Trustees in furthering the Society’s ambitions through developing and implementing effective ways of working, leveraging technology. They will prepare meeting agendas, take minutes and respond to enquiries.

• Anticipated commitment: 3-4 days/month

MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY
A diligent and tenacious person to ensure membership subscriptions, applications, upgrades and enquiries are managed timeously. They will confidently use the membership management tools to maintain an up-to-date membership list and provide brief reports on membership matters.

•  Anticipated commitment: 3 days/month

NB Although all roles are predominantly home based, attendance is usually required at meetings in London or at members’ studios near London, however we will be conducting meetings online for the foreseeable future. These roles are unpaid although appropriate expenses on Society business will be met.
