Paul Mason
Paul is Director, Emerging and Enabling Technologies at Innovate UK, the UK’s innovation agency. Paul has overarching responsibility for programmes in Emerging Technologies and Industries; in cross-cutting areas such as electronics, photonics, electrical systems, robotics, digital, space, design and creative economy; as well as for Innovate UK’s Open Programme (UK and international).
This role follows periods as Deputy Director Research and Chief Scientific Advisor, and as Head of Development. Paul oversaw the creation of the very first Innovate UK sector strategies (in areas such as manufacturing, advanced materials, medicines & healthcare and energy); and established new programmes in agriculture & food, stratified medicine, disease diagnosis, creative industries, and emerging technologies.
Before joining Innovate UK, Paul worked for 25 years in the chemical industry. There he held roles in R&D, market analysis, technical management, process improvement, change management, sales, and manufacturing management; gaining experience in Europe, USA and Japan. Paul read Chemistry at Balliol College, Oxford and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
