Join the RSA Isle of Wight Network for its July meetup.

Come to meet up with Fellows on the Isle of Wight, and hear about or get involved with projects that Fellows are leading locally.

Philip Bown FRSA will give a short talk on the effects of the opening of the Severn Bridge on the town of Chepstow.

Our main guest speaker will be Nicholas Wakefield and his subject will be alternative strategies for improving cross-Solent transport.

Nicholas Wakefield was educated at Orley Farm School, Westminster School, the University of Oxford, and Manchester Business School. After an early career as a consulting civil engineer with Binnie & Partners in London, which included the design and construction of the 20 km Ely Ouse-Essex bored tunnel, he specialised in project finance, first at S.G. Warburg and later at HBOS.

During his 30 year banking career, Nick managed teams which arranged and provided funding for major projects in the power, oil, and gas, mining, pulp and paper, manufacturing, leisure, transportation, health, property, water, and education sectors, including the Channel Tunnel, high speed rail, London City Airport, Heathrow Express, and EuroDisney projects and the rebuilding of 29 secondary schools in Glasgow in 2001. Between 2002 and 2005 Nick established a new company, Infracare, which developed and financed the construction of eight new primary health facilities in Bristol, Oxford, and Dudley. Nick was the Commodore of the Sea View Yacht Club from 2008 to 2010 and is a current Governor of Ryde School. He and his wife Sue live in Seaview; they have two children and five grandchildren, who are regular visitors to the Isle of Wight.
