You need social media training and online visibility, or do you?
Join us for an evening of practical social media training from Leicester led by Leicester University’s Fellow for Business Innovation, Tobias Gould, followed by a real world discussion about the usefulness of our time spent on social media.
This event will be an opportunity to learn about:
- What makes a shareable post?
- What is newsworthy?
- What makes a good post?
- MyRSA – Is your profile saying what it needs to?
- Is all this sharing and posting worth it?
Nowadays people consume their news through their digital devices - surely, if you are not on people’s mobile phones then you are not visible. People in the UK now check their smartphones on average every 12 minutes of the waking day. Two in five adults (40%) first look at their phone within five minutes of waking up, climbing to 65% of those aged under 35. Similarly, 37% of adults check their phones five minutes before lights out, again rising to 60% of under-35s (Ofcom, 2018).
Yet strangely, it is often true that no one really cares about the content you are pumping out. People are tuned into their own interests and their channels are flooded with posts. The challenge is to make your content useful, valuable, relevant, or beautiful, to engage with your target market. Or you could just get someone already famous with fans who love them to post it for you!
Perhaps you are better off using direct methods of communication such as letters, newsletters, leaflets, flashmobs, parades, phone calls, meetings, networking and events to get everyone’s attention? Is social media just a complete waste of time? Who knows? Come along and tell us what you think.
