One of three summits co-hosted by the RSA and the Further Education Trust for Leadership (FETL), an independent charity and think tank which is working to strengthen the leadership of thinking in further education. The summits bring together leaders in Further Education & Skills to consider how to take advantage of the changes facing the sector, identifying opportunities for system leadership and innovation.
Funding cuts, Area Reviews, the commitment to 3m apprenticeships and compulsory education to 19 have the potential to lead FE & Skills into a radically different future. Launching in May, the RSA/ FETL publication Possibility Thinking is a collection of essays exploring questions around system innovation and leadership, pedagogy, public understanding of the sector and the global context in order to provoke and stimulate debate within the sector. Whilst the sector has a history of adaptability and responsiveness, there is now a unique opportunity for the sector to develop a greater sense of agency and self-determination.
The summits will include structured discussion around issues raised in the publication and a chance to contribute to the development of actionable recommendations for policy and practice.
Key questions for consideration at the Summit:
What is needed to support understanding, innovation and leadership in the sector?
What do leaders in the sector need in order to be creative leaders of change?
What will change public and political perceptions of the FE & Skills sector?
Places are limited, so if you would like to attend, please book as soon as possible.
