Dr. Maria Santiago Valentin

Dr. Maria Santiago Valentin, EdD, PhD (h.c.), is an accomplished educational consultant, researcher, and community leader recognized for her outstanding contributions to educational innovation, sustainability, and social change. Recipient of the 2024 Leadership of Excellence Award from Walden University, she is also a Fellow of the Walden University Institute of Social Change, where she continues to advocate for education as a catalyst for equitable and sustainable community development. She was conferred her Doctor of Education degree by Walden University in December 2023.
Committed to environmental stewardship and policy advancement, Dr. Santiago Valentin serves as Commissioner of Environment in Franklin Township, Somerset County, New Jersey. She is also a founding member of the New Jersey Progressive Equitable Energy Coalition, promoting inclusive approaches to renewable energy and climate justice. Her expertise extends to sustainable systems design, holding LEED Green Associate certification from the USGBC, and to educational transformation that integrates mental health, special education, and environmental awareness.
Honored with a Doctorate Honoris Causa by the Claustro Doctoral Iberoamericano in Mexico, Dr. Santiago Valentin has strengthened cross-cultural and international partnerships in education and heritage management. She continues to lead initiatives through her consultancy, Calm and Mindful LLC, empowering organizations toward social impact, environmental consciousness, and inclusive practices. Her work reflects a holistic vision where education, sustainability, and mindfulness converge to build resilient, compassionate, and forward-thinking communities.
