We are inviting organisations working with children aged 0–11 in urban areas to apply to become a Playful Green Planet steward.

We are committed to connecting, supporting, and championing the work of stewards in a number of ways. Joining the network is free for endorsed stewards and provides the following benefits.

  • RSA endorsement: to recognise your initiatives’ alignment with Playful Green Planet principles.
  • Playful Green Planet brand: including brand guidelines and templates.
  • Platform: opportunities to spotlight stewards’ impact stories through RSA events and content.
  • Managed green space (if needed): thanks to our partners like The Land Trust.
  • Open playbook: including learning and reflection prompts, links to nature play resources and fundraising ideas.
  • Collective impact tools: triple-benefit evaluation metrics and tools, and quarterly reporting to evidence network impact.
  • Community: connections with other Playful Green Planet stewards and champions via a dedicated community manager, community platform and monthly learning and networking events.
  • Advisory committee: access to nature, play and policy expertise.

What we’re looking for in a Playful Green Planet steward

  • Safeguarding and governance structures already in place through providing services to children aged 0-11 as part of their existing local offer (eg school, early year setting, community setting, park/playground, etc.)
  • Access to green space or to one of the land sites that the RSA can connect stewards with via The Land Trust or other partners.
  • Interests and/or experience in accessible, inclusive nature-based play.
  • Local connections and trust within their community.
  • Time and capacity to participate within three months.

Prospective stewards should ideally be based in our strategic cities across the UK where children have poorer outcomes and lower access to nature: Belfast, Birmingham, Blackburn, Bradford, Cardiff, Dundee, Glasgow, Hull, Liverpool and Newport.

We are also inviting individuals within our Fellowship to become Playful Green Planet champions, supporting our stewards by lending expertise in play, policy, education, ecology, and design to roll out Playful Green Planet across the country. If you’re interested in becoming a Steward or supporting as a champion, please reach out to our Community Manager, Rachel Grice, at rachel.grice@rsa.org.uk.
