Adopt a Student: transforming lives through mentoring .

Wednesday 19 June 5.30 – 7pm

Lilian Baylis Technology School, 323 Kennington Lane, London SE11 5QY

Would you like to spend time with a student to support their next steps in life, help them gain an insight into your career and understand what is required to succeed?

If you do we want to see you at the information event for Adopt a Student at the Lilian Baylis.

The Adopt a Student programme aims to open up avenues of opportunity to students. Adopt a Student involves a commitment to one student on a deeper level than the usual routine of work visits and careers talks.  Lilian Baylis are looking for individuals who are prepared to:

• Become a mentor for the student, making time when the student could come and meet with them at least once each half term (6 times a year) for approximately 30- 45 minutes

• “Adopt” their student for a period of at least one year, enabling them to build a more meaningful relationship

• Support students on a two days of work experience or work shadowing experience

• Give students small projects that gives them a real experience of the type of work carried out in your field or industry

Why should I get involved?

This is an opportunity for RSA Fellows to work closely with a student from an RSA Academies school to give an insight into the workplace and help raise aspirations.  Disruption to the mentor’s work is intended to be kept to a minimum – students will travel to the work place for their mentoring sessions, and would be expected to keep a diary in which they make and commit to session times that are convenient to all involved.

For more details or if you wish to volunteer for the Adopt a Student please contact Alison Critchley.
