Alan is a Fellowship Councillor for Wales.

Alan has spent over 35 years working in product design, innovation management, and new product development, collaborating with design firms and major manufacturers across Europe, Asia, and North America. Today, he works as a lecturer and programme manager at the Welsh Institute of Science and Arts at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David in Swansea, where he leads the Innovation Management MSc/MBA programme and contributes innovation modules and lecture sessions to other courses across the university – all from his garden shed on the edge of the Ceiriog Valley.

He was nominated and became a Fellow of the RSA in 1995, fundamentally because he believed in its mission: “Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.” These values have shaped and continue to shape his everyday work.

Alan is firstly a Welshman, still very much a European – and is unreservedly open to valuable collaborations across the UK and the rest of the world. He is curious about what’s next in innovative thinking and practice – and how it will make a difference both industrially and socially.

His agenda is simple: there are over 800 RSA Fellows in Wales who are personally and professionally insightful, socially and culturally aware – and given the opportunity, will bring practical input and encouragement to new projects and initiatives developed by Fellows that can have a meaningful and sustainable effect across Wales and its regional communities from north to south. Alan is always happy to have a chat – about everything and anything – in person or via Teams or Zoom.

Fellowship Councillors
