Alan is a Fellowship Councillor for the North of England.

Alan Raw is a storymaking practitioner working at the intersection of culture, climate, and community.


A multi-award-winning BBC presenter, curator, and published author. Alan wrote the solarpunk novel Salt & Seeds and writes nature-focused children’s stories, including a story for the RSA Playful Green Planet project. He has led exhibitions, festivals, and participatory projects across Europe, including events at four Capital of Culture celebrations. Alan works under the banner Alan Raw Writes and founded Sustainability and Beyond to support communities using storytelling for creative engagement. He holds an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Hull for his creative sustainability work. Alan is a Fellow of the Schumacher Institute and a Director of The Association of Sustainability Practitioners. He co-founded the RSA Space Network and is an RSA Fellowship Councillor for the North (UK). His work is grounded in the belief that stories help us imagine the community we can become.
