We welcome visitors with special needs and have tried to adapt our building and services to meet different requirements.

Wheelchair users

The Society's house is an 18th century building which has grown over the years through the interconnection of several adjoining houses. Whilst it is possible to access all public areas in a wheelchair, there are some uneven floors, awkward corners and narrow doorways. Access to the Folkestone and Prince Philip rooms is via Lift C which is unsuitable for electric wheelchairs.

There is a dedicated wheelchair ramp adjacent to the main entrance. On arrival please ring the intercom to speak to the Reception team and the door will then be opened automatically for you.

Once inside please go to the main reception desk where you will be given further assistance in locating the rooms you require. There are two wheelchair accessible toilets, two wheelchair accessible lifts and dedicated wheelchair points in both theatres.

A Blue Badge parking bay is available on John Adam Street opposite the entrance to the House. However from Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 6.30pm, parking is restricted to a maximum 4 hour stay. Two hour parking meters are located in John Adam Street opposite the entrance to the House. Blue Badge holders are entitled to park at a meter/pay-and-display bay for an extra hour once the paid time has expired.

Hard of hearing

A 'Deaf Alerter' paging system is linked to the main house fire alarm. If you would like to carry a pager whilst visiting the building please notify our staff at Reception.

Induction loops are installed in the following areas: Reception, Fellows' Library, Great Room, Durham Street Auditorium and Prince Philip Room. Portable Induction loops are available for use in all other rooms on request.

A captioning service by Ai-Media UK is also available on request at events which are part of the RSA Public Events Programme. If you would like to request that an upcoming public event is captioned then please email:

Visual impairments

Large print versions of our publications and menus are available on request.

The building is quite complicated. We can provide floor plans to help visitors find their way around and staff are available to provide assistance.
