Student Design Awards winners: Moving pictures
Brief 9: Conceive and produce an animation to accompany one of the two selected audio files that will clarify, energise and illuminate the content.
- Beyond divisions - Alice Siniscalchi and Erica Ciuffreda, University of Westminster, England
- Ambitious cities - Olivia Heseltine, Norwich University of the Arts, England
Beyond divisions explores the differences between on-screen and off-screen. By using a portrait phone size as the animation format, audiences are called to focus on the opposing themes of connection and isolation. Textural collage elements build beyond the creative phone size format and are combined with personal emotional human aspects.
The animation was submitted in response to Moving pictures Category 2: Act together, with audio by Vivek Murthy.
Ambitious cities is a hand-drawn animation that uses playful illustrative elements to educate and engage audiences on themes of sustainable living, respect for global cultures, equal rights and the effects of carbon emissions on the planet. The animation transitions from tall city buildings to wildland habitats, using a tonal colour palette to draw focus on meaning and urge viewers to question complex collective social challenges.
The animation was submitted in response to Moving pictures Category 1: Ambitious cities, with audio by Kate Raworth.
