To meet our global social, economic and sustainability challenges, we need to match investment in technology with investment in new ways of organising society.

The 21st century has seen an explosion of new knowledge and technologies. And yet we’ve made little progress in our ability to solve social problems using social innovation – the deliberate invention of new solutions to meet social needs.

Geoff Mulgan is a pioneer in the global field of social innovation. Building on his experience advising governments, businesses and foundations around the world, he explains how it provides answers to today’s most urgent challenges, from social inequality to climate emergency. We’ll only begin to make real headway, he argues, when the investment we make in technology and science is matched by socially focused R&D, and by harnessing creative imagination on a larger scale than ever before.

Join Geoff Mulgan at the RSA to hear how, as we enter a new decade of the 21st century, social innovation is now finally coming of age – and why it’s needed more than ever.
