Y Caban is our quarterly online meeting for Fellows across Wales to connect with one another and share expertise. Join us to gain insights into current topics of interest to a regenerated Wales and our collective futures.

Our focus for this meeting will be the work of the Wales Net Zero 2035 Challenge Group who have published a series of seven reports. Commissioned by the leaders of the Welsh Government and Plaid Cymru through the 2021 Cooperation Agreement, the reports aim to renew and rapidly accelerate Wales’s approach to achieving net zero. The reports articulate pathways to a prosperous and resilient Wales in a changing future across themes such as “how could Wales feed itself” and “how could Wales heat and build homes and workplaces by 2035? We will hear from Jane Davidson, who chaired the work of the Wales Net Zero 2035 Challenge Group.

Jane Davidson, author of #futuregen: Lessons from a Small Country, is Pro Vice-Chancellor Emeritus at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. From 2000 – 2011, Jane was Minister for Education, then Minister for Environment, Sustainability in the Welsh Government, where she proposed legislation to make sustainability the central organising principle; the Wellbeing of Future Generations (Wales) Act came into law in 2015. She introduced the first plastic bag charge in the UK and created a Climate Change Commission for Wales, the post of Sustainable Futures Commissioner, and the Wales Coast Path. In education, she piloted major curriculum changes, the Foundation Phase for early years, the Welsh Baccalaureate and integrated Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship into the Welsh Curriculum. More recently, she contributed to the RSA’s Urban Futures Commission.
