RSA Scotland: Basic Income Pilot Experiments in Europe and North America

Following the Scottish Government’s recent commitment to provide support to basic income pilots in Scotland, interest in how to take these ideas forward is growing rapidly.

RSA Scotland and CBINS are therefore delighted to host Dr Jurgen De Wispelaere, a leading international figure in the basic income movement, to explore his experiences of working with basic income experiments in countries like Finland.  He will highlight the learning which has been developed from these experiments, address areas which Scotland will need to explore and offer up thoughts for the future development of basic income in our country.

Of Belgian Flemish origin, Jurgen has worked as an academic in Dublin, Barcelona, McGill University in Montreal and latterly at Bath University. He has also worked in an advisory capacity to the organisers of the Finnish experiment.  He was a trustee of the Citizen's Income Trust during the 2000s before moving to Barcelona, but he has been involved in the BI debate for some 20 years.  He has written extensively about basic income.
