What role are social entrepreneurs playing in shaping the future? Join the Fellow-led Sustainability Network for discussion and inspiration.

The theme of this year’s 75th World Environment Day is bio-diversity.

The UK was the first major economy to legislate to become a net-zero emissions economy. The temporary respite from carbon emissions growth and bio-diversity damage provided by the CoVid19 shutdown gives the opportunity to look to better models for the future.

During this event you will hear about projects from around the world that strive to lead the world toward resilient sustainability and bio-diversity. First, Sri Lanka’s world leading biodiversity project will be introduced by the country’s Climate Change Director. We will visit the small community led project driving change and delivering results. From mangroves to ocean protection, you will hear from social entrepreneurs that have learned to adapt to local regions to incite change. The NGO Sudeesa is replanting the mangrove forests in Sri Lanka, which supports The Commonwealth Blue Charter for countries to work together on ocean protection and economic development.

Mangroves are resilient trees growing in coastal tropical and subtropical zones in 118 countries across the world. They trap up to four times more carbon than other forest ecosystems and sustain a rich biodiversity.

We will hear about community involvement and empowerment from Zedgeneration, a CIC working with young people and elders to build together a greener, cleaner, more sustainable and equitable world.

We promise inspiration and lively debate - bring your own ideas and projects which support or replicate them.

Speakers:

Dr Sunimal Jayatunga, Director (Climate Change), Ministry of Environment and Wildlife Resources Sri Lanka

Rani Moorcroft MBE FRSA, Zedgeneration, former UK Country Champion for Education and skills to Sri lanka
