Inspired by the RSA’s origin in an enlightenment coffeehouse over 250 years ago, our new Northern Coffeehouse series offers an interactive space to share ideas for social change.

This week we’re joined by Kate Lowes FRSA from Brighter Sound.

Brighter Sound is a creative music charity based in Manchester. They develop the music creators, leaders and industry professionals of the future, with a particular focus on supporting those who are historically and currently underrepresented. Their creative projects, residencies, training and events help people with everything from artistic and career development, to building communities and personal confidence.

Rooted in the North of England with national and international reach, they’ve supported young and emerging musicians for 20 years, working with people from their early years to their early careers, and beyond. Kate joins us to discuss issues relating to gender equality in music, and the way that impressions from the past affect the present when it comes to changemaking practice.

Join us most Fridays for an informal lunchtime talk followed by a chance to discuss the topic of the day or anything else that is on your mind, in small breakout rooms. Starting at 1 pm and finished by 1.45 pm, you can enjoy your Friday lunch break with inspiring speakers and interesting colleagues.
